So THIS is how it is to "HAVE A LIFE"
SURPRISE! Well I HOPE hearing from me is a surprise.
I know, I know, I just get through telling you that I am going to try and be more faithful in blogging and podcasting, then I disappear for months.
Well, first, I ran out of things to say. Can you imagine? But it is true. I felt that I had nothing whatsoever to say, that I hadn't said already. Secondly, I decided to attempt to "LIVE" my life, instead of talking about it.
I have really had a great time. I have gone places and done things. Don't ask me what it was that prompted the change. But for the first time I gave myself permission. I put away all the excuses I commonly use and began to say YES to those opportunities to "do something" that came my way. And I have to admit I have had fun. Normally I just stayed home. There is always more to do than I have time to do it in. And, if I have to admit it, my dreaming, thinking and procrastinating has always stood in the way of my living life.
So what have I been doing? Hmmm, that IS a good question. First of all, I have been having fun. I have talked with friends. I have read books and magazines that have been sitting on my table, gathering dust. I have gone shopping! Got all my Christmas shopping done (nearly) in just one day. And I only visited three stores.
I have also been waiting on God. If you don't know what that it, it is when you ask God for direction, and you "wait around" until you feel He has answered, either through the scripture you read, or through a door of opportunity that either OPENS or CLOSES. As you know, I am a dreamer. I have more things I would "like to do" than I have sense. So I have asked the Lord to show me what He wants me to do.
I have had one such dream all my life. I love to sing and I love to share. In years past, I had been asked to sing and speak at banquets, womans functions and other such places. But those opportunites have all but dried up.
Out of the blue I received one such opportunity. A dear friend and mentor of mine called recently. His name is Vic Eliason. Vic is the head of a ministry in Milwaukee Wi. called VCY http://www.vcyamerica.org When I was just out of high school, I sang in a youth choir through this ministry. I also managed the Christian bookstore for a while. Years ago, VCY consisted of a radio station, and a bookstore. The youth choir would sing at rallys and travel in the summer. It was during this time that I feel I was "grounded" in my Christian faith.
Now, VCY has grown considerably. To quote their website: "The VCY America Network is a satellite distributed full-service program schedule consisting of Bible teaching programs, live call-in programs on issues of concern to the Christian community, news and commentary, programs reaching children with the Gospel, and conservative, uplifting Christian music. Programs are selected for their ministry value and their biblical content, rather than financial considerations. There are currently twelve VCY-owned stations across the midwest, plus others that take our network programming for a number of hours each day, some of them full-time." And so Vic called me.
Vic and I discussed old times. He was surprised to know that I now have four grandchildren. And then Vic made my day, no my week, ok my YEAR! Vic asked me if I would be interested in recording at the VCY studio sometime after the holidays. We talked briefly about the old beloved hymns of the faith. Why, I would sing the phone book if there were notes!
So now I am REALLY dreaming. AND practicing. Hmmm, can these 57 year old vocal chords remember what to do? Only time will tell. I will keep you in the loop with my progress.
It was good to be with you again!
Until next time.
